Elephant Ensemble Theater is proud to present WOODHULL: A PLAY ABOUT THE FIRST WOMAN WHO RAN FOR PRESIDENT as part of the 11 th annual New York International Fringe Festival - FringeNYC. This will be the play's New York premiere.
WOODHULL is a biographical drama about Victoria Woodhull, the thirty-something former prostitute who ran for President against Grant in 1872. With a platform that included free love, legalized prostitution, and abolition of the death penalty, at a time when it was outrageous for women to show their ankles, she was as ahead of her time as she was controversial, and often as hated as she was revered by her public.
WOODHULL is written by Liza Lentini, an award-winning playwright, whose play Roxy Font was a critical favorite in last year's FringeNYC, taking home a Fringe Award for Best Ensemble.
WOODHULL is directed by Mary Geerlof, who has received acclaim for her directorial work in theater, film, and television, and is a Directing Mentor at NYU, a producer at KidZone TV, and the Founder of Maskette Studios, Inc., a theatre & film production company dedicated to realizing the creative vision of the director.
WOODHULL 's 20-actor cast is headed by Katherine Barron as Victoria Woodhull, Rachel McPhee at Victoria's sister Tennessee, and Bern Cohen as Victoria's father.
WOODHULL will run 8/9 at 9:45pm, 8/10 at 3:15pm, 8/12 at 6:45pm, 8/13 at 4:00pm, and 8/15 at 5:30pm. All performances are held at the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts at Pace University, 3 Spruce Street, in Manhattan.
